For the 10th anniversary edition of the Sacher Artists’ Collection, Gottfried Helnwein selected a motif that is undeniably associated with the Original Sacher-Torte: “In this picture I paraphrased Caspar David Friedrich’s ‘Sea of Ice’, a seminal painting of the Romantic period that depicts the awesome power of nature, a power humankind is ultimately at the mercy of.

In the context of Viennese mythology, the Sacher-Torte is also a force of nature from which it is hard to escape, at least as a visitor to this city”, Helnwein noted.

All proceeds from this year’s special edition, which is limited to 555 pieces, will go to “Stiftung Kindertraum” (Children’s Dream Foundation).
